Do you want to stop circling your to-do’s? I can show you how!
I saw a kettle of vultures circling above me one day while I was walking. Though a vulture sighting is common, their circle wasn’t. It was mainly over a road, with just a little detour over the trees on either side.
During the 20 minutes I could see them, not one left the group – and I didn’t pass any roadkill. Since vultures generally take what they want, it appeared they were stuck in a vulture holding pattern.😊
It struck me that their behavior wasn’t unlike ours at times.
We circle above our to-do’s, waiting for the “right” time to attack them. Do any of these sound familiar?
-
“I don’t want to start it until I have time to finish the whole thing.“
-
“I’m unsure how to begin. “
-
“I’m waiting for {information, motivation, time, etc.}“
My walk took me in a different direction, so I don’t know when or what happened to make the vultures change course. I do know strategies that can help you stop circling your tasks:
-
Separate tasks from projects. Single to-do’s are easier to complete and give you a sense of accomplishment. After all, a project is just a group of tasks.
-
Just take one tiny action. Your brain won’t say, “I’ve decided that now is the time for you to work on {x task}, so I’m giving you the motivation to proceed.“😊 This is especially true if it is an obligation that you don’t want to do. That’s why it’s so crucial to take the smallest of actions to get started.

Design your schedule to work on more challenging tasks during your highest energy time. If you are already tired, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll work on a to-do that you don’t want to do in the first place.
My clients are ambitious. They are used to getting lots accomplished. When they feel overwhelmed and out of control because a health condition impairs their life, they often get stuck in “circling to-do’s.”
As a coach, I help clients figure out how to get unstuck from “task circling” so they can check items off their to-do list.
Are you tired of having a list of tasks that aren’t finished yet? You don’t have to go through it alone! I partner with ambitious people in the midst of a life-impacting diagnosis to achieve calm and control so they can live their life again.
Are you ready to feel focused and on top of things? Great! Let’s schedule a no-obligation exploratory call to see how I can help you make that happen.
It’s time to discover how you can tackle your lingering tasks!
